KP Energy places an order for Senvion India’s flagship 4.2M160 wind turbines
Know MoreChennai, 30 October 2025: Senvion India today unveiled its 4.2 MW wind turbine generator (WTG) prototype at Windergy India 2025. The ceremony at the Chennai Trade Centre was graced by Shri Pralhad Venkatesh Joshi, Hon’ble Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution.

Built on Senvion’s modular 4XM platform and localised with over 85% India-sourced content, the 4.2M160 combines a 160-metre rotor, advanced controls, and high-reliability, data-driven O&M to lift annual energy production while driving down LCOE. Engineered in India but customisable to all operating conditions and diverse wind regimes, the platform is made in India—for India and the world.
Hon’ble Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi congratulated Team Senvion and said,
‘’The 4.2MW turbine is a testimony to the success of Make in India initiative under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will contribute to the country’s 500 GW ambitions. This is a significant milestone because around 80% to 85% of the equipment and components being used in this prototype is being sourced locally. The turbine is a symbol of India’s focus on Atmanirbharta in renewable energy, driving clean energy and self-reliance - engineered, manufactured, and perfected in India. This launch by Senvion aligns perfectly with the national mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Green Growth.’’
“This is a proud milestone for our team,” said Amit Kansal, CEO & MD, Senvion India. “We promised a modern, modular, deeply localised platform that helps IPPs capture more energy at a lower lifecycle cost, and we’re delivering. The 4.2M160 is operational, generating, and ready to scale with our suppliers and partners.”
A diverse team of the finest engineers, men and women, and a global R&D team have steered the prototype from design through commissioning, reflecting the company’s capability in shaping India’s renewable future and the inclusive culture Senvion champions across manufacturing, engineering, and field operations.
The 4XM architecture enables rapid introduction of future variants and shorter lead times for site-specific configurations. Serial production is expected to start in 2026. With a strong order pipeline of 500+ MW, the platform is set to power new projects across key markets.
With close to 1.5 GW commissioned in India, Senvion continues to scale localised engineering, R&D, and manufacturing; deepen domestic supply chains; and support the country’s 2030 renewable-energy goals.
Senvion India is one of the leading turbine manufacturers in the wind energy sector. Senvion India has been present in India since 2016 with a dedicated and world-class R&D setup, and today, the company has expanded operations to engage over 1200 resources across the value chain in India. Since its establishment, Senvion India has been actively involved in the development and installation of wind energy projects across the country.
With a strong focus on innovation and sustainability, Senvion India has played a crucial role in promoting clean energy solutions and supporting India's transition towards a greener future.
